Writers Zone

Kids in 4th-8th grade who like writing are invited to this fun program Tuesday afternoons at 4:00 from February 15 through March 8. We’ll start off with some weird writing activities (like “Describe the gunky stuff that gets caught in the basket at the bottom of the sink. Don’t use the words disgusting or gross.”) Then writers can try their hand at being newspaper columnists, like Darby in Jonathon Scott Fuqua’s book Darby. We’ll publish the columns on the library website!

American Leaders Poetry Workshop

Our first program for the 4th-8th grade Writing Club is coming Tuesday November 9. We’ll be looking at several figures featured in the Bookshelf collection, namely Abraham Lincoln, James Madison, George Washington Carver, and Cesar Chavez. Then, after discussing some poetry forms, kids can write a poem about a leader of their choosing. Once they’ve perfected their poems, they can write them on a fabric square that will be sewn into a quilt. The program begins at 4:00 in the 2nd floor meeting room.
